Almost there...

We moved in a couple weeks ago and we are slowly finishing everything up. The dinning room, kitchen, living room, bathrooms are all done. We need to decorate but its christmas time, so that decor went up till I find what I really want to put up.

The dining room open to the kitchen, we are getting a bigger table but for now this old one will suffice.

The dining room with the bay window

View from the dining room into the kitchen

View from the kitchen towards the dining room and our giant kitchen peninsula...so much counter space is awesome.

New railings...you can see the living room

The living room, small but cozy. Want to add some bright pillows and some shelves with cute art and books. Also want a new coffee table, but not sure what we really want so the old one will stay around till we find something perfect.

The guestbedroom/office. Need a headboard and better curtains but we are working with what we already had

The desk in the guestbedroom/office. Need to put up some art on the walls.
Yes that is Molly, she followed me around while I was trying to take pictures

Downstairs bathroom, so nice and clean.

Upstairs bathroom. Look at the floor!!!

Upstairs bathroom shower

Master bedroom. Yes, we have black curtains because I sometimes work nights and need to sleep during the day, and they are blackout and make the room pitch black and I can sleep.

Master bedroom from the other side- the fact that the window is not centered irritates me daily but I cant change that, so I will learn to love it.

**Still missing is another bedroom and the basement but we need to paint them so I will spare you the woodpaneling and pink flower wallpaper**

And more stuff

Most of the electrical work has been finished in the house, just have to actually put in the lights themselves. The HVAC and plumber should finish next week. And apparently our cabinets arrive Oct 20th!!

On to the pictures...

On the left is the new entry, on the right is the old entry, it used to have a second door that would hit the staircase. The door was taken off and the entryway enlarged. It makes it feel super spacious when you come in.

The half wall that will become our island (I guess technically we should call it a peninsula since it's attached on one end) It will have cabinets on the kitchen side and an overhang towards the dining room with barstools.

The granite we picked out, it has hints of mother of pearl as well as some subtle purple specs in it. Cant wait to see it in. We also ended up getting the kitchen sink and faucet at the granite place, it was so much cheaper there than any other place.

And probably my favorite thing so far is this slider door in our kitchen that opens to the sunroom. It brings in so much light to the room.

The upstairs bathroom shower half wall went up. Its going to look something like the picture belowit but with a glass door, and well not those colors. There was something about a full glass shower that bothered both of us, so we like the half wall.

Until next time...

Some walls are down

We haven't been in to the house for 2 days, Phuong went over last night and this what has been going on!
The wall between the dining room and kitchen has been opened and the kitchen is gone!

Very little left of the downstairs bathroom

Upstairs bathroom mostly gone too!

Cant wait to see it in person myself.
Most of the stuff we picked out has been ordered and will be arriving soon.

And more stuff to remove

This weekend we did a ton of stuff, well sort of. We met with our contractor and he sent us to multiple places.
This is everything we picked out: kitchen tile, kitchen countertops. Pretty much everything for the mainfloor bathroom. Upstairs bathroom tile. Paint for the living room, dining room, kitchen, sunroom and guest bedroom. Dining room chandelier!

Tomorrow we go order the kitchen cabinets

All that shopping was so exhausting, but then we went over the get some more lovely wall treatments removed. Every surface of this house was covered in something.

And now for more pictures:
This is one of the upstairs bedroom. It is covered in flowery wallpaper, and those were the ugly curtains.

And this is how much wallpaper I was able to remove in an hour. AHHHH!!!

This is the master bedroom, yup that is gorgeous 1970's woodpaneling

And if we thought wallpaper glue was bad, this is the lovely stuff left behind from the removal of woodpaneling--we dont even have a clue what to do with this. HELP! Not sure if we should just put up drywall over it, or if there is something to remove the glue.

And a photo of the upstairs bathroom, yup thats a pink toilet- the whole bathroom is being gutted and we already picked out the tile, its going to be awesome! We cant seem to find a vanity that we really like for this bathroom, so our search for that continues. And dont worry we will be going for a white toilet, you know normal. This is a full bath you just cant tell cause the shower is behind the door, but we are changing it to a bathtub anyways.

More updates to come as they happen.

This Old House

Today we closed on our first home. It is a total fixer upper. The same family lived there since it was built in 1942 and it looks like little updates have been done since the 60s.
Here is our journey as we gut the kitchen, redo the bathrooms, strip wallpaper, remove shag carpet and make it all our own.
Front view

part of the yard--way too many overgrown bushes
In the dining room looking towards the living room
(that is leftover wallpaper paste all over the walls--the second we closed we went over the the house and started taking down wallpaper)
Yes that is faux brick and wood paneling--but that whole wall is coming down to open the dining room to the kitchen.
Yes the kitchen is getting fully gutted- goes out to the sunroom
Guest bedroom (once again wallpaper paste on the walls)
Main floor bathroom- total gut job
I forgot to take pictures of the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom, those are just as covered in wallpaper as the downstairs.
Show you more progress pics along the way!
